Best way to store the UTF-8 characters wilth less space in database

• My web application has a big issue with storing the utf-8 characters to database. The issue is about storage of database.
• Its taking a lot of space from database so sometimes my website gone crash also.
• The main content column is in "longtext" type.
• I researched for that purpose but when we use "varchar" for that column then how i can manage the huge datas!!!
• Any possible solution if anyone has then comment.
• I want to store the utf-8 characters to my database as less as possible or same as English characters in size.
