Laravel 5 clear cache

I manually clear the view cache in my Laravel 5.1 storage\framework\views folder (as I am in a shared environment, and can't run artisan) and when I re-run the page, the view is recompiled (expected) and the compiled view contains the right view content (expected) but the front-end does not show the compiled view. It shows an older version of the view. This problem does not occur on my local machine.

Any ideas what could be going wrong?
