How to backup MYSQL database with Laravel(from scratch, no requiring libraries)?

I'm developing an application with Laravel 5.1 and I'd like to be able to write my own code for database backup. Have looked through several questions relating to that but all answers suggest using this library or that library. As convenient as that is, I'd like to build my own custom service for that. Anyone know how to do that?
