HTTP authentication Laravel 5

I searched everywhere about retrieving username coming from a web server which uses a simple PHP HTTP authentication, but could't find any.

before visiting the URL the user should enter username and password in order to visit the link. Is there a way in laravel 5 to grab the username and store it into a DB as soon as the authentication is approved?

it says I should use $_SERVER but unable to figure that out in laravel world.

Any help would be much appreciated.
